C&P web site FAQ
What
is simulated game shooting?
The day is almost indistinguishable from a day's driven game shooting,
the difference being that the quarry is in fact a clay rather than live
game.
What makes it different to clay pigeon shooting?
In terms of shooting it is the sheer excitement, unpredictability,
speed and variety of shots you will make – in fact just like a real
bird day. In terms of ambience you will spend the day on a beautiful English
country estate.
Is there a season?
No. Simulated game shooting takes place all year, though the most popular
months are April-October
Who is it suitable for?
One of the great delights of simulated shooting is that we are able to
cater for abilities. Complete novices & experienced shots will stand
side-by-side, shoot the same drives and both have great fun.
Will I hit anything?
Yes, plenty and often! On a normal day you will fire anything between
250 to 400 shots. With our trained coaches at your side even a novice
is plucking clays out of the sky within a short while.
Is
there a minimum age?
Yes. On Open Days & Estate Days the minimum age is 18. Younger children
are very welcome on the Father & Son Days.
How long does the day last?
Generally from 9.30am-5pm, with shooting in the morning, lunch, shooting
in the afternoon & tea to end the day.
Where can I stay?
See the accommodation guide section of the web site for our recommendations.
Do I need my own gun?
No. We will provide a gun, though gun owners are very welcome to bring
their own.
Do
I need a shotgun licence?
No. You will be covered by a special licence issued for the day to us
by the local police.
Do I need any special clothing?
Just dress for a day outside, taking account of the vagaries of the British
weather! There is no dress code as such, but drab greens and browns are
a good idea.
Do I need waterproof footwear?
Most definitely yes. Wellington boots or something similar for walking
across grass and ploughed fields, that you can wear all day.
Do I need ear & eye protection?
We will provide ear defenders & eye protection. However, do bring
a hat or cap and a pair of sunglasses.
What about the weather?
We shoot regardless of the weather, so dress with this in mind.
Is it safe?
Yes. Safety is of paramount importance to us. You will briefed before
the event starts and be under the watchful eye of our experienced coaches
and loaders.
Does
the recoil of a shotgun hurt?
If used incorrectly, yes. However with our instructor at your side you
will be shown the correct technique to avoid this. That said, even the
most experience shots may have a bit of a sore shoulder at the end of
the day, but it is more of a badge of honour than life threatening injury.
Do I need a 4x4?
No. We provide transport around the estate. However, if you have you 4x4
and fancy some ‘off-roading’, please bring it along.
